Spring Festival

March 6 - 8, 2026

University of Montana, Music Building

Missoula, MT

Entry Deadline: To be determined

This festival offers students the opportunity to perform for an adjudicator and receive valuable feedback on their repertoire. All levels are welcome. Notable performances will be chosen by the adjudicators and the entrant will be invited to perform at the Honors Recital in the UM Music Recital Hall, which has wonderful acoustics and offers real experience performing on a professional stage.

The Solo Divisions are open to all students in piano and strings at all levels from kindergarten through high school, who meet application entry fee requirements and deadlines. The Ensemble Division is open to all students and any instrument, including voice, at all levels from kindergarten through high school, who meet application entry requirements and deadlines. Entries are restricted to students who study privately.

STUDENT PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Students need to bring one score of each piece for the adjudicator. Please make sure that the measures are numbered. No photocopies will be allowed. All performances are open to the public. Please see additional requirements for each division below:

Piano: Students are required to perform 2 pieces in contrasting style for written and oral adjudication. Students who play a major work need only play 1 piece. To be considered for the Festival Finale Recital, pieces must be performed by memory.

Strings: Students are required to perform 2 contrasting pieces for written and oral adjudication. Students who perform a major work only need to perform 1 piece. Students must have their own accompanist. Memorization is not a requirement for Festival Finale Recital consideration.

Ensembles: Any group of 2 or more qualifying students may register as an ensemble (any instruments, including voice, any style, any group size of 2 or more). Ensembles are required to play 2 contrasting pieces, except if 1 or more members of the ensemble participates in more than 1 adjudication period or if they choose to perform a major work: then the group may choose between playing either 1 or 2 pieces, and still be qualified to be considered for the Festival Finale Recital. Memorization is not a requirement for Festival Finale Recital consideration.
